In a new and exciting partnership with the Orpheus Project (formerly Opera-to-Go), JLO will be providing educational outreach support for the production of their commissioned opera, The Princess Sophia. The opera, written by Alaskan composer Emerson Eads and librettist Dave Hunsaker, recounts the deadliest maritime disaster in Southeast Alaska and the Pacific seaboard in North America. The premiere will take place in October of 2018 on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the vessel. This March, Orpheus Project will be presenting a workshop of the finished opera with local artists alongside internationally acclaimed guest artists. In an effort to expand the awareness of this important part of Southeast history to Juneau’s youth, JLO is excited to provide additional support needed to bring the work into the schools with artist classroom visits and performances, and appropriate study guide materials. However, we need your help to raise at least $5,000 to make this possible. Stay tuned for more information and please consider an additional tax-deductible gift to support this important project!
