Give your students a glimpse into the world of opera! Juneau Lyric Opera provides interactive presentations with Alaska state curriculum standards in mind. Email director@juneauopera.org to book a classroom discussion and receive discounted student tickets to mainstage productions.

December 2020: In association with JLO, Vox Borealis will present a virtual holiday concert. More details will be shared as they become available – stay tuned!

February 13, 20, 2020: JLO presented highlights of Orpheus Project’s production of Alcina to Juneau middle school and high school students. The opera was also presented during the Mendenhall Library’s Memory Café series – a social program geared toward adults experiencing early-onset Alzheimer’s and Dementia Disease.  The opera, written by Francesca Caccini and premiered in Italy in 1625, is the first known opera written by a woman. Sponsored by generous private donations.

October 24, 2018: More than 600 7th and 10th grade students and their teachers from the Juneau School District attended a production of The Princess Sophia, free of charge. The opera, commissioned by the Orpheus Project, commemorated the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Princess Sophia in Southeast Alaska’s Lynn Canal. Sponsored by the Juneau Community Foundation, the Alaska State Council on the Arts, and generous private donations. Transportation provided by First Student.

February 2017: JLO partnered with Juneau Douglas High School’s Drama Club to produce Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods. The show featured a cast of more than 60 adult community members and high school and middle school students. The cast was invited as the sole presenters for the 2018 Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities ceremony at the JACC.

(Photo) November 2012: JLO partnered with Juneau Douglas High School to present Hairspray, directed by Hall Ryder of the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Sell-out audiences enthusiastically appreciated the show’s message of tolerance in a diverse society. This production was generously sponsored by the Rasmuson Foundation. JLO continues to strive to offer these training opportunities, as well as workshops and recitals designed to encourage the participation of artists and theatre professionals at all still and experience levels.
